Distance Learning Update...

Elementary Programs...
Vista Colorado ES and Chemehuevi Valley ES

  • All students are successfully uploaded to all teachers' classrooms with 6 courses- Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Art and Music. All students will receive a standards-based curriculum in each of these areas each week.
  • Teachers are working to manipulate the online program to meet the needs of their students.  This is the second week of our beginning program implementation and all teachers will attend professional development to better utilize the system.
  • Teachers are working to SLOW DOWN the instructional calendar so that teachers, students and parents can learn to best use the online program to support student learning.  As stakeholder expertise improves, calendars will be updated.
  • While we understand that this program implementation has been very challenging for parents and teachers, our goal is to provide a MORE RIGOROUS curricular program than we did last spring.  This is a required mandate by our Governor to ensure that all students receive a standards-based rigorous curricular program. As a result, we have to learn how to do this.  Your patience is greatly appreciated.

  • The integration work between our student information system, AERIES, and Pearson has now been completed.  Individual student issues have been resolved.
  • Pearson provided teachers with ongoing additional trainings on how to implement class lessons, manage student work, and better utilize the instructional calendar.
  • Pearson Live Lesson instruction and the available tutors will begin in the next few weeks.  The integration for this system is complete and teachers are working on a smooth transition.
  • Parents will be notified when the Tutors are available to support student learning. Hours will be 6:00 am - 3:00 pm for Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and 6:00 am to 8:00 pm for math.
  • Elementary students in grades TK-4 will have their work graded according to a pass/no pass system which looks at the acquisition of state standards that are covered in the Pearson lessons.
  • Grade 5 will also review the state standards but student work will be graded on a letter grade system because 5th grade is a transition year to middle school.
  • Additional chrome books have been purchased for classroom use (as soon as they arrive) so that students will not need to bring their laptops to class.  We will continue to use Pearson curriculum when students are in-person for instruction.
