DRAFT Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan 2020

This is the ongoing draft of the LCP that will be presented to the Board for approval on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd. This is a living document that will be adjusted as necessary given stakeholder input and changes mandated by the State.


A $20 GIFT CARD WILL BE GIVEN TO ANYONE WITH PROOF OF SIGNING UP FOR THE CENSUS BY SEPTEMBER 30TH AT FARMER'S INSURANCE. We need all households to support and complete the CENSUS 2020 as it brings money into the City of Needles but impacts funding for the Needles Unified School District to better serve our school community. Census takers are at the Farmer's Insurance Office at 920 W Broadway in Needles ON MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM daily to help you register for the Census. Please Help Our Community!

Board Meeting September 15, 2020 - Public Input on Response to COVID-19 Challenges

This Tuesday, September 15th, the Board meeting will include a public hearing for input on NUSD's response to COVID-19. The District is working on the Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan that discusses the response last Spring following school closures as well as this fall starting with distance learning at this time. Superintendent McNeil will also discuss the elementary waiver process for reopening elementary schools while following all State guidelines and procedures.

Checkout of New Chrome books Begins August 7th

All students will receive a new chrome book before school starts on August 17th. If you checked out a laptop last spring, you will need to return it when you pick up your new one. All chrome books will be checked out of Needles High School from 9:00-11:30 and 1:00-3:00.

The schedule for picking up your chrome book will be as follows:
Friday, August 7th Juniors and Seniors NHS
Monday, August 10th Freshman and Sophomores NHS
Tuesday, August 11th & Wednesday, August 12th Needles Middle School
Thursday, Augusts 13th & Friday, August 14th Vista Colorado

Makeups will be arranged by each Principal or Asst. Principal.

Chemehuevi Valley ES students and NMS/NHS who live in Chemehuevi/Havasu Landing will be able to pick up chrome books from Chemehuevi Valley ES. More information will be available by Tuesday, August 11th.

2020-2021 Reopening School Plans

These are the initial plans for reopening school for the 2020-2021 school year. It includes various scenarios for in-person instruction as well as information on our Distance Learning model that we will begin with in August per Governor Newsom's mandate at this time. This plan is a work-in-progress and will be updated as information from state and county agencies change.

District to Implement Structured Academic Programs for 2020-2021

Needles USD recently purchased Pearson's "Virtual School in a Box" which will provide rigorous standards-based instruction and activities for students through our Distance Learning, Blended Learning and In-Person programs this year. ALL students K-12 will have 6 courses, including core subject matter classes of Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and 2 electives. Kits for core subject courses and electives will be provided for all grade levels and all students in those classes. Tutors will be available through phone calls and online to support student learning and to support parent supervision of student activities. Our teachers will be providing 180 days of up to 240 minutes (180 @K, 230 @1-3, 240 @4-12) of instruction and assignments that students complete online. Check out the attached brochure.
