Vista Colorado ES Student Devin Marquez Reads Essay to Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees had the pleasure of listening to Devin Marquez from Vista Colorado ES read his award-winning essay on "Good Character" last night. This week Vista Colorado students and staff are working with renowned children's author Gary Hogg to motivate students to write using academic vocabulary. Student essays were selected for a recognition with the author, Mr. Hogg, in the Mustang Cafe. Devin Marquez and 14 other students were selected for the luncheon because of their outstanding essays. Good job Vista students! Good job Devin!

Needles USD Superintendent Recognized by Chamber of Commerce

The Needles Chamber of Commerce recognized Dr. Mary McNeil as "Educator of the Year" at their annual dinner on October 11, 2014, for all of her work with her team in the Needles Unified School District. The district has added many programs and positions to support ALL students in learning at all levels throughout the district. Dr. McNeil is committed to a school community that focuses on bringing an extensive range of opportunities so that ALL students will learn and succeed!

Information on Board of Trustee Seat for Area 1

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors will be appointing a trustee for Area 1 in the next few months. Interested individuals will have an opportunity to apply for the position and recommendations will be made to the county by the district. More information will be available shortly.

Understanding Common Core: Why Is It So Different?

Common Core State Standards mandates 1/3 fewer standards per grade level compared to the number of standards from previous years-but Common Core standards are taught "in-depth" so that students can apply their knowledge to actual life situations now and in the future.

Needles USD Teachers Share Their Instructional Expertise!

All NUSD teachers met on Wednesday's Early Release Day with Superintendent Mary McNeil, Director Jim Rolls and Principals Marie Armijo and Amy Avila for a workshop on the district's new Signature Practices in effective teaching and learning!

Needles High School Mustang Cafe Opens!

The Mustang Cafe opened as the ROP Business Services Class this week led by ROP teacher Chris Tacy! NHS students can visit the Cafe on Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm to play fuzball, pingpong, do work online, study, read, visit with others, and buy a carmel latte prepared by the ROP students! Stop by and see for yourself- Student Lounge at NHS is now the Mustang Cafe!
