Understanding Common Core: Why Is It So Different?

Common Core State Standards mandates 1/3 fewer standards per grade level compared to the number of standards from previous years-but Common Core standards are taught "in-depth" so that students can apply their knowledge to actual life situations now and in the future.

Needles USD Teachers Share Their Instructional Expertise!

All NUSD teachers met on Wednesday's Early Release Day with Superintendent Mary McNeil, Director Jim Rolls and Principals Marie Armijo and Amy Avila for a workshop on the district's new Signature Practices in effective teaching and learning!

Needles High School Mustang Cafe Opens!

The Mustang Cafe opened as the ROP Business Services Class this week led by ROP teacher Chris Tacy! NHS students can visit the Cafe on Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm to play fuzball, pingpong, do work online, study, read, visit with others, and buy a carmel latte prepared by the ROP students! Stop by and see for yourself- Student Lounge at NHS is now the Mustang Cafe!


The first day of school has been postponed to Monday, August 25th due to flooding at Needles USD school sites. Staff will return on Friday, August 22nd with the Welcome Back Breakfast from 8:00-10:30 am in the new cafeteria/multi-purpose room.

2014-2015 School Calendar (REVISED)

A revised calendar for 2014-2015 is available following the Board of Trustees' meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. School is starting on August 25, 2014 due to flooding at all three of our Needles school sites. Except for the starting and ending dates for the school year, all other quarters, breaks and holidays are the same as the original calendar approved last spring.

The Board of Trustees approved school calendars for the next two school years. These calendars included changes from past school calendars in order to improve our programs to increase student achievement for all students.

School District To Elect Board Trustees

Three of the Needles USD Board Trustees are up for re-election this fall, as well as the need to elect a trustee from Area 1 (Goffs & Essex) and to appoint a trustee from Area 3 (Chemehuevi & Big River).
