Mary M. McNeil, Ph.D.
Dr. McNeil has been the Superintendent of the Needles Unified School District since August 2013. She is very proud and excited to lead the Needles USD within a community that shares such as positive and caring attitude towards students.
Dr. McNeil’s experience in various sizes of school districts supports her success in both small school districts, where all employees assume a variety of responsibilities, to large school districts where an understanding of systems and operations is essential. Prior to Needles USD, Dr. McNeil served as the Assistant Superintendent in the Los Nietos School District where she was responsible for curriculum, instruction, special education, and technology. She also has served as Director of K-8 Education and Principal (middle school and elementary school) in the Charter Oak Unified School District; Elementary Principal in the Little Lake City School District; and Assistant Principal in the Anaheim School District. Her teaching experience was gained in the Los Angeles Unified School District at the K-12 grade levels as a region adviser, categorical coordinator, bilingual teacher and instructional aide.
Dr. McNeil holds a Ph.D. in Policy, Planning & Administration from the USC Graduate School and a Masters of Science from the USC Rossier School of Education. Her bachelor’s degree was earned at the University of California, Santa Barbara in Developmental Psychology.
Dr. McNeil has served on the Board of Directors for many professional, non-profit agencies and service clubs that include the Association of California School Administrators, the Boys and Girls Club, Girl Scouts, and Rotary. Her passion is to provide opportunities for children. Her professional focus is on creating networks to encourage women as leaders. Her hobbies include travel, gardening, family and friends!
